Obituary for Bernard James "Bernie" Springall

Bernard James Springall
Passed away, peacefully at St. Andrew’s Terrace, Cambridge, on Monday, March 28, 2016, formerly of Ayr and Miller Lake, Bernie was born and raised in New Waterford Cape Breton NS he was in his 89th year.
Beloved husband for 59 years to the late Christine “Betty” (nee Hallman – 2010); loved Dad to James (Pamela), Doug (Barb), Gord (Michaela), Rolie, and Lorie (Sharon); cherished grandpa to 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; dear brother to Eileen, Joe, Al, Anna, Shirley, Jeanetta, Reg, Dave, Lee and Ron.
Bernie was a well known local hockey player in the good old days of Ayr. He also coached minor hockey and ball. He along with his wife Betty co-founded and introduced Ringette to Ayr.
Bernie and Betty retired to a cottage he built with his own two hands in Miller Lake Ont. There he became a wood craftsman creating several different items most notably his lighthouses.
Bernie's ability to put a smile on someone's face was natural to him. It's something he loved to do, more than anything else, as it also brought a smile to his face. He continued this right up to his final days. The staff at St Andrews Terrace can attest to that.
Cremation has taken place, a family interment will be held at Ayr Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Thank you to the St. Andrew’s staff with special mention to the Angels who cared for Bernie in the Elm Trail area.
Donations to Alzheimzers, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
