Hertel, Richard Henry
Surrounded by his family, Richard Henry Hertel, 67, passed away November 6, 2016 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Richard is survived by his wife Carol, son Matthew and his wife Joanne, daughter Abbey and her son Nolin, brother, Bill and sister Jane and their families. Lovingly remembered by many cousins. Richard was a "very special" grandpa; Nolin will miss the tractor and golf cart rides with grandpa. Richard was a very proud member of the Kitchener Fire Department having retired in 2005 after 29 years. We have been blessed with awesome family and friends who were always there during Richard's eight year battle with throat cancer. Richard, known by many as Augie, Augie Doggie, Kick it Ricky and many others, could do anything.....build a house, carve a sign and whip up a great meal. He could hardly take a picture without a funny face and his dry humour made everyone laugh. Richard and Carol travelled every chance they could and always lived life to the fullest. This man just never stopped and that is one trait that made him so admired. Ricky gave so much to others and for that he will always live on....remember his motto, "enjoy each day" and he will live on in you. LTS (Life's too Short)
A special gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. at Golf's Steak House, 598 Lancaster Street West, Kitchener, Ontario. Richard received excellent care from the London Health Sciences Centre Cancer Unit and the ENT Department (Dr Kevin Fung). Memorial donations to the ENT Dept., LHSC, would be appreciated by the family (cards available).
