It is with happy memories and saddened hearts we announce the passing of Gary Edwin Hopkins, a longtime resident of Paris. Gary died peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Brantford General Hospital, on Tuesday May 30th, 2017, in his 75th year.
Beloved husband of 50 years to Delaine (nee Preece); loving and proud father of Christine Hopkins (Phil McLeod) of Paris, and Heather Hopkins (Christian Pavey) of Toronto; cherished papa to Sam, Aidan, Quinn, Fraser and Julian. Dearly missed by his siblings Sheila (Len) Fox of Vernon, BC, Mike (Tammy) Hopkins of Calgary, AB, Maurreen (Jim) Moore of Airdrie, AB, Colleen (the late Steve) Dereniwski of Kincardine, ON, and predeceased by sister Paddy. Survived by his extended family in Canada and Boston, MA.
Gary was very active in the Paris community. He proudly served as Councilor and Firefighter for the Town of Paris. Gary enjoyed fishing, politics, gardening, dancing and spending time with his beloved family and friends, especially his adoring grandchildren. He will be remembered for his quick wit and love for conversation.
To celebrate Gary’s life, family and friends will be received at Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 184 Grand River St. N. Paris, on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. A Memorial Service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, June 5, at 11:00 AM.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated staff of the Brantford General Hospital for their compassionate care.
