Obituary for Dorothy Nixon

Dorothy Christine Nixon (Loveless)
Dorothy died peacefully on June 6, 2017 at Telfer Place, Paris, in her 89th year. She leaves her husband Bob; sons John and Harry; daughter Jane Stewart (Henry Stolp); daughter Sara (Charles Phillips); grandchildren Alex Stewart (Laura Francoeur); Bob Stewart (Laura Healy); Jackson Phillips (Kate Genest), Allison Phillips, Christine Phillips, Elizabeth Phillips; great grandson Nixon Stewart; her sister Marguerite Campbell (Howard); sisters-in-law Doris Loveless (Bob), Dawn Loveless (Gerry) and many much loved Loveless, Campbell and Forbes nieces and nephews and their offspring.
Eldest child of Hilda and T. Owen Loveless, Dorothy was raised knowing the importance of family and service. After graduating from the University of Western Ontario, she embarked on a career of her own at United Cooperatives before marrying Bob in 1952. Dorothy led an active and productive life being a strong, supportive partner in Bob’s political career and a community leader in her own right. She managed his first election campaign while raising four kids on the farm at St. George, and was known to go from gardening gloves to evening gloves with complete style and grace. Active in community affairs, she and a group of determined women saved the old school in St. George from destruction and left it a fine historic edifice that continues to serve the children of our community. Dorothy was an active member on the Ontario Press Council and locally on the Boards of the YMCA and United Way.
A natural athlete, Dorothy was a brilliant baseball player and skater. In mid-life she took up skiing, tennis and biking and wowed us all with her poise, beauty and sportswomanship.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Dorothy will be forever remembered for her unconditional love, her welcoming heart and her devotion to family and friends. As more than one has remarked, “She is the kindest person I have ever met”.
Our thanks to the wonderful staff at Telfer Place for their service and generosity. Each of you made a positive difference in Dorothy's life. Cremation to be followed by a private family memorial. Online condolences may be sent through http://www.kippfuneralhome.com/home.html.
