Obituary for Vaughn Allan Harvey Becker

Dr. Vaughn Allan Harvey Becker, DVM life’s journey ended June 6, 2017 in his 55th year due to Glioblastoma Multiform (GBM) brain cancer. Married 27 years to Ellen and proud father of twins, Justin and Daniel and daughter Karen. Son of Harvey (Dec 2012) and Shirley Becker, brother to Sheila (Bob Patterson), Dale (Kim), Charlene (Tim Haelzle), Gail (Ken Lehman 2010) and Jeff (Joy). Godson of Allan (1999) and Mary Becker. Godfather to Derek Patterson and Graeme Becker.

He grew up in the small farming community of Ayton, Ontario and graduated from the Ontario Veterinary College in 1988 from the University of Guelph. He started practicing veterinary medicine in Alliston and Bracebridge before moving to Cambridge to build the small animal division of a practice. In 1996 he bought into the practice and was known for treating the pets in his care with honesty, compassion and skill, sharing tears and laughter along with his clients. His leisure time was spent at the cottage, in his gardens, live theatre, dancing, downhill skiing and travelling. Vaughn was a very competitive card player. His homemade caesar salad, fruit cake, hot dog relish and caramel popcorn were the best. Thank you to GBM predecessor’s participation in clinical trials, their involvement allowed Vaughn three additional years of quality life after diagnoses. Vaughn participated in two clinical trials himself (cancertrialshamillton.ca).

Special thanks to Dr Patti Weir of St. Francis Animal Clinic in Kitchener for continuing to treat Vaughn as the professional veterinarian and friend that he was and her expertise to care for his dogs when he no longer practiced.

Cremation has taken place.
