Obituary for Frances Amelia Sophie Howells (Pelley)

Howells, Frances Amelia Sophie

After an extended illness, Frances Amelia Sophie Howells (formerly: Rideout, nee Pelley) passed away peacefully on Thurs. June 15, 2017 at Telfer Place LTC in Paris ON., at the age of 82 years. Frances was the daughter of the now deceased Cornelius and Maude Pelley (Stone) and was born in Harcourt Nfld on Sept 30, 1934. Like many before her, Frances left home at the tender age of 16 seeking better employment opportunities in Ontario. She settled in what is now known as Cambridge where she found employment and raised 4 children. However, you can take the Newfie out of Nfld, but you can’t take Nfld out of the Newfie, therefore Frances took many a trip down home. The old Newfie saying, “Stay where you’re at and I’ll come where you’re to.” rang very true in Frances’s heart when it came to going back home to visit family. After working at Woolworths and Savage Shoes, Frances was employed at Dresser Industries for 32 years and took early retirement when they closed their doors. During her retirement years, Frances and her husband of nearly 29 years, Tom Howells, took regular trips down east, wintered in Florida for a few years and summered in Port Elgin. When Frances became ill, they returned to live in Cambridge for a short while then moved to Paris where Tom was born and raised. Not long after, Frances moved to Hardy Terrace LTC in Mt Pleasant then 1 ½ years later she took up residence in Telfer Place LTC where she resided for almost 7 years before her passing. Fanny will be lovingly remembered by her husband Tom. Mom will be missed by her sons Gary (Jane Bennett), Larry and Randy Rideout(Cyndi) and her memory will always be cherished by her devoted daughter Marina Fee(Allan). Eleven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren will share in many precious memories of Grandma. Frances will also be remembered by her stepsons Mike Howells(Patricia)and their 3 sons and 5 grandchildren and Terry Howells(Anita) and his 3 sons and 3 grandchildren. Joyful memories of Sis will be shared by Ella Stanley (formerly Holloway), Abel Pelley(Mary) and sister-in-law Louise Pelley. Baby brother Abe gave Frances the gift of laughter for which she will be eternally grateful. Frances will also be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Sadly, Frances was predeceased by 7 siblings: Wilson Pelley(Annie), Llewellyn Pelley, Cyril Pelley(Christina), Jessie Froude(Albert), Lewis Pelley(Evelyn), Wallace Pelley(Maureen) and Grace Dalton(Eli). In keeping with Frances’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family Interment of Ashes will be performed at Memory Gardens in Breslau. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Frances Howells to the Alzheimers Society would be greatly appreciated and may be donated through this website. The family of Frances Howells would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Robert Williams for his compassionate palliative care of Frances and to all of the extraordinarily caring staff at Telfer Place who tended to Frances’s every need with empathy and love.
