Obituary for Sandra Elaine Collins (Koster)

Sandra Elaine Collins (Koster)
Sandra Elaine Collins (nee Koster)
Left us peacefully, surrounded by love, at Juravinski Hospital, Hamilton, on Monday, May 21, 2018, in her 70th year.
Beloved wife to the late Jeffrey Ronald Collins (1999)
Cherished Mum to Tara (and Ron) Townes, Trevor (and Jenny) Collins and Ken (and Neena) Collins; Loving Nana to Aspen, Hudson, Julian, Jefery, Fynn, Nathaniel and Mason. Fondly remembered by her siblings John (and Elaine) Koster, Ken Koster and Mary (and Ian) Neve; and her dear friend, Chris Spencer and her family. Sandra’s memory will also be held close by her extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Leo and Grace Koster (nee Brailsford)
Sandra was a devoted mother, grandmother and educator with the Waterloo Catholic School Board.

As the eldest child, Sandra became a natural gatherer of loved ones. She cherished her roles as a daughter, sister, wife, mother and teacher. She raised her family with selfless love and endless energy. Sandra and Jeff were known to all to have strong shoulders to cry on, to be providers of wisdom and support as it was needed and to exemplify what true love looks like. When Jeff passed away suddenly in 1999, Sandra courageously accepted her new reality and continued to nurture their vision of family life and love. When she retired as an educator from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board in 2002, she began a second career as a Nana continuing that vision into the next generation.

Sandra created a support system for and within her family that is a constant reflection of her strength and love. Her family’s love is her legacy. Every day that Sandra lived on this Earth was a blessing because she fought hard to remain with her family since her diagnosis of a rare blood disorder and heath scare over 20 years ago. The fact that Sandra lived to see all 7 of her grandchildren born and to have a gentle and guiding hand in raising them is a testament to how much she loved her family. Her family feels gratitude that they had so many additional years together and relief that the end of her health struggles reunites her with Jeff.

Sandra would encourage all of her loved ones to continue chasing their dreams and living their passions. She took her own advice and travelled the world with her friend of the heart, Chris. Together they marvelled at the wonders of the Earth, explored new cultures and discovered more about themselves. The next time you come to a breath-taking location or meet someone truly special, please take out a picture of Sandra and share the experience with her. She will love traveling with you.

Cremation has taken place. Her family welcomes friends, loved ones and anyone who wishes to join them to celebrate Sandra’s life at The Pines, 115 Fountain St. S, Cambridge, on Saturday, May 26 by dropping in between 2-5 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Juravinski Hospital, Hematology Dept. would be appreciated.
