Rosemary Knechtel ( Gadsby)

My deepest condolences to Elizabeth's family on the loss of a wonderful lady. I knew Elizabeth as an inspirational nursing leader and visionary in Ontario over several decades. When my father was the Administrator of the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital in Galt in the 1960's, Elizabeth was a well respected nursing teacher. She became the Director of the Hamilton and District School of Nursing. I was a nursing student under her leadership at HADSON and all the graduates will remember her belief in the power of nurses to be leaders in health care. We always knew she expected us to be professional and put patients first. She was short in stature but strong in her confidence in us to make a difference in Ontario nursing care as students and graduates. She oversaw the the consolidation of the regional school into the Mohawk College nursing program and was an administrative head for many years.I had the honour and the privilege of teaching nursing students at Mohawk under her leadership. Elizabeth made a difference in my life and in the lives of countless nursing students and graduates. Her dedication and outstanding achievements will be remembered for years to come.
